Having great photographers as friends helps a lot to build your portfolio, that’s for sure. Having great photographers with awesome studio location and great connections helps even more. OK, let’s start from beginning. Pete came up with great idea to gather all of us, share the ideas and experience, but more just to hang out… So more than 1 week ago, we met for test session in Critter’s Studio (Pandora Studios), nothing big, just casual meet-up. One of the ‘togs – Conrad has arranged couple models for us to shoot, so we can test different light setups on live and more attractive then us subjects. We met couple of hours before models arrived, just to unpack, talk and test couple of setup. I brought my Elinchrom Deep Octa, to try it, I ended up using it till the end of sessionThis is so far my favorite light modifier – it gives that soft, nice light, and it can light entire group of people (more on that in future posts).
We had 3 models: Rachel Valentina, Chloe Vavra and Maggie Zawislak, all from UR Supermodels Agency.
Pandora Studios is one awesome location, and I could shoot there for days, there are many places you can shoot to get different look. For this one above with Rachel, we used Calumet Genesis Monolight with Elinchrom Deep Octa as key light, and 580 EX II with blue gel for separation/hair light. Except couple of shots (you can tell – they are pretty wide), I was using my 85 1.2 L
This one is slightly different setup – changed position of that 580 to light more background and roof, and as you can see swapped blue gel with the red one. Deep Octa still being key light.
When I saw those legs and shoes I thought it would be cool to shoot Rachel sitting on the chair, so I dragged one from another room. Very simple setup – 1 light – Deep Octa boomed slightly left over Rachel.
Because Chloe’s outfit was different, and blue separation light didn’t actually work well, we decided to switch gels to full CTO on that 580 EX II.
Deep Octa all the way – slightly on the left of Chloe.
While shooting Maggie we used ABR800 RingFlash, just to see what kind of quality of light we will get, and it’s a big jump from softness and awesomness of Deep Octa – but it has the look too.
Here is Deep Octa back in action.
Thanks to Conrad, we have group shot too (86″ PLM as main light, and some Einstein setup for rim light – don’t exactly remember).
Once again, thanks to UR Supermodels Agency for great models: Rachel Valentina, Chloe Vavra and Maggie Zawislak and to everyone else for a great time and making it happen! There are more exciting stuff on the horizon, so stay put, yay :]
