Our Chicago photographers gang met together almost 3 months ago in Indiana for a Farm photoshoot. We had couple great models, bunch of light, pretty good weather, hair and makeup artists, so yeah – it was worth to drive over 100 miles to Indiana. As usual – we started with location scouting and me and Pete knew already what to do – it was really weird – like our brains were in sync or something, because we both were thinking of the same thing, throwing some CTO’d light from outside the hut to create dramatic look. We used Quadra RX head high with CTO (close to full power), and beauty dish inside for main light.
Then it was the shot we came for – Karley wearing tutu and doing ballerina poses. Because we didn’t want Karley to get cold, we prepared everything before – light, wooden tile covered with leafs for stabilization, cleaned up branches, etc… yeah it doesn’t look like it was cold, but it actually was bit chilly. Main light was Quadra RX with Deep Octa high camera right, and black window shades covering harsh sunlight from camera left. I was shooting with my 85 very close to 1.2 with CPL filter on. That and ISO50 allowed me to sync @1/125 of a sec and play safe. Manual focus + live view of course…
Then we dragged the whole Quadra RX set and were shooting with it as a main light, and some speedlights for back light.
Here Montana posing next to awesome retro gas pump – gotta love her pose and outfit
It got dark and cold pretty fast, and we wanted to get a group shot – something a’la Abercrombie, so we set Quadra RX with Deep Octa camera right high as main light and some speedlights with CTO for background and ceiling.
I cannot wait for spring already, so we can shoot outside again
